Iphone app developers are boosting security

Security is an important consideration both in our homes and online. More consumers are turning to sophisticated solutions to protect their physical property as well as their data and personal information. Home security companies have been around for ages, but their methods are increasingly wired in to home computer networks. For example, closed circuit television systems which once recorded to VHS tapes are now more likely to send data directly to a computer or readable disk. Other security devices including automatic gate openers and alarm systems can also be remotely connected to home computer systems. But these days, the real innovations in security are happening on our handheld devices, including smart phones. It's alarming to consider how much personal information we store on or at least enter into these devices. The list includes banking passwords and account numbers, government IDs, security PINs and important phone numbers.

In some cases, third-party applications can actually create breaches in a smart phone's on-board security system, so it's important to exercise caution when installing new software. With that said, there are also several applications that can be incorporated into a smart phone to boost device security. Iphone app developers have been busy the last two or three years, coming up with a host of security solutions for smart phone users. Many of these are premium applications, but the investment is most certainly worth it for anyone who stores important passwords, PIN numbers or personal information on a handheld device. Special file encryption applications have also been designed. Other applications scan public networks like those encountered in offices or coffee shops to find out who else is online.

This is useful for probing the network, finding open ports and getting an idea of who may be trying to access your files. Everyone has had moments where they forget their login or password to a shopping site or web account. This can be a serious irritation – especially when you need to make a snap purchase or verify an account transaction. There are smart phone applications on the market that have been designed to serve as a repository for passwords. This allows you to keep all of your login and password information from a range of sites in a single, digital lockbox. Then, you simply have to remember one well-chosen password that will provide access to all of your other passwords. With a device like this you could even store PIN numbers to your ATM or home security system, resting assured that this feature would remain off limits to prying eyes even if the phone was stolen or intercepted. But in the event that the phone is stolen and the thief is able to guess your password, there is one more highly useful application. This one scans your fingerprint on the touch screen and will only open for the actual user. Knowing the password isn't enough, as the thief would have to have the same fingerprint as you. This is where smart phone and advanced home security really start looking the same.
